AWARENESS OF RSV AS A GLOBAL HEALTH PROBLEM IS LACKING

To raise and spread awareness, we have launched a ‘RSV Mortality Awareness’ campaign at the start of the RSVVW 2019 conference on November 12, 2019, by sharing a personal video entitled “Why we should all know about RSV” about Simone van Wyck, a mother, who lost her son from RSV. The RSV awareness video was produced in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

RSV in Older adults

We would like to express our sincere condolences to Neeltjes' family for their loss. Jan. 2020.
Neeltje from The Netherlands, 99 years old, participant of the RESCEU Older adults study. RSV is an important cause of pneumonia in older adults. Awareness of RSV in older adults is almost absent. Every year about 3-6% of all older adults are infected with RSV. Course of disease is most severe on older adults with severe underlying disease such as heart failure or COPD.
